Road BACKGROUND
Timor leste
Backround
The
road from Dili to Ainaro is around 110 km long; it is a vital link between the
north and the south of the country connecting three districts - Dili, Aileu and
Ainaro - which jointly account for a third of the country’s population,
including thousands of small farmers. each section is 25 km long from
Bandudatu to Aituto from Km 64+000 to Km 89+000, whereas 23 km
long from Aituto to Ainaro from Km 89+000 to Km 112+000.
Improving
Improving this road will bring a social and economic benefit to the
country and to the people, as a good road makes it easier for the community to
evacuate and sell his production. It will also provide
access for tourism, boost the economic development and increase the
quality of life for people through better access to health and education.
Challenge
Due
to geographical conditions, the road link between the south and north of the
country is often inaccessible, especially during periods of heavy rains when
landslides and flooding are common. The Dili – Ainaro road is a vital link
connecting Dili, Aileu, and Ainaro, three districts where the population is
mostly farmers and coffee is a major crop.
